Sled Island may be cancelled, but a number of bands have pulled together to set up a street corner concert to raise money for the evacuees from Kensington.
Hosted by a childhood neighbour of the Calgary/Toronto band Lowell at 220 11 Street NW, the show will feature Lowell, local favourites Surf Kitties, Chicago’s Running and more. The music starts at 6pm, and also features a fundraising barbecue. Be sure to bring a few dollars to donate!
I went to this event and thought it was amazing! It was a beautiful experience and all of us who shared it will remember it for a long time. Thank you to the organizers, the community and the many young people who came out and generously donated.
It was nice to see a community who was not affected help out the many who were. Kudos to them!
We raised over $2600 dollars for the red cross, had a ceremony for the firemen who have helped with the flood, and the generator was used to pump people’s yards and basements in the neighbourhood for three days straight! 🙂 Its important to stay positive in situations like these so really positive things can happen. Huge success!
As a resident that would really love to go home I really think this should be postponed or moved out of the evacuation zone to let the city do their work and let people go home…this can easily create more problems for stretched city resources if they are forced to get these people back out of the evacuation zone….I really hope whomever is organizing this thinks this through

Hi Liv, the email we received indicated that this event is being powered by a BIG generator, but no info on whose generator this is.
Since we dont have power does this mean you’re expecting to get this back in time or are you using much needed generators for a concert that are most likely needed elsewhere? If the latter is true I think this should wait for a day or two. Proud of the intention though.
