Tonight’s show at Dickens is the first salvo in an all-out assault on your productivity for the rest of the week, as the 2013 Calgary Metalfest opens with a bang.
The show is 18+, and features KYOKTYS, Jason Rouse, Exit Strategy and stab.twist.pull.
KYOKTYS are a four-top of death metal devotees from Calgary, who have been riding the rapids of A River In Hell and generally blasting the senses out of everyone in earshot since 2010. They hit the stage at 11:55pm.
Jason Rouse is described as a “Jester from Hell”; his dark comedy stylings will have you laughing to death starting at 11:20pm.
Exit Strategy is another local group who have played with hundreds of other metal acts over the years. Banging since 2007, they are in the process of recording a new album that promises to showcase the versatility and reach of the group, arcing from traditional sounds to new heights of brutality.
The night will start off with Calgary’s stab.twist.pull. It will be an energetic start to the night, as this long touring and multiply-record-releasing group will showcase their raw metal presense. Don’t miss ’em, they go on stage at ten.
The ‘Fest is running multiple shows from tonight to Saturday, with a few all-ages shows sprinkled in. There’s also a bus that will shuttle people between venues; get more information online.
