Last week, I made my way down to The Hub for King Dylan’s CD release show in support of his latest album Looking for the Sun, which is his fourth solo album. If King Dylan is still Looking for the Sun after his CD Release party, then he probably wasn’t looking hard enough. This was my first time seeing King Dylan perform, and I was surprised to see such a flow of pure energy from all directions.
With openers Septembryo up first, the night was clearly starting off on the right track. Septembryo is known for their fun and upbeat styles, and delivered on key (as per usual). Their on-stage playfulness made their performance enjoyable and easy. Not only did they play a new track that is “Great for working out”, but they also started comparing King Dylan to a young Christian Bale, circa American Psycho… Less crazy, but very fitting.
Penny Fortune brought the dance floor alive. Their liveliness pulled people from their seats and right up to the stage. The blend of hip hop/rock/R&B with their sweet lyrics really got the crowd started and pumped for the man of the hour, King Dylan.
King Dylan was wild when he took the stage, where Graham Furber (lead singer of Broken Ride) joined him. I was able to contain myself while they whipped up some 90’s nostalgia by covering The Girl is Poison, but failed to keep composed when my (long overdue) teenage dreams came true when Dylan invited me up on stage for a beautiful serenade of “Queen” (which is also available on Dylan’s new album). Before the night ended, Septembryo joined Dylan on stage for a amped up finale.
Lucky fans that came to the show walked out with a fresh copy of King Dylan’s new CD; if you happened to have missed the show but would still like to get yourself a copy of this album, you can pick it up at his online store.
I wish both Septembryo and King Dylan huge success at their upcoming showcases in Toronto during Canada Music Week!
