The Imminent Return of Sled

Just when you thought it was safe to forget about the water, the local series that was a big washout last year (no fault of their own!) has announced a guest curator with a swimsuit connection.

The Sled Island Music and Arts Festival will run June 18-22 this year, and they’re happy to announce that Kathleen Hanna of Bikini Kill will be curating this year.

sledAn original riot grrl, Hanna has been a huge contributor to the 90’s feminist movements within the punk scene, and has translated her voice into powerfully successful bands like BK, Le Tigre and The Julie Ruin. She was the point of focus of the documentary The Punk Singer, and will be following in the soggy footsteps of previous contributors like John Dwyer of  Thee Oh Sees and Tim Hecker.

At the premature end of last year’s festival, there were big questions around whether the flood would financially hurt the ability for the event to happen this year. Thankfully, Sled Island received a flood of support from ticket holders, 70 per cent of whom either refused or reinvested their refunds.
